In the recent times, jatropha crop has caught attention of many people and there is tremendous potential that is being offered by this group. This crop can serve as an excellent bio fuel option that has capability of providing very high yield. With amount of crude oil decreasing in a larger extent and increasing price of fuels, this will be an excellent option. There are several advantages being provided by this crop compared to other kinds of bio fuel crops. There is great level of research undertaken to increase the capability of extracting fuel from this plant. There are several other benefits being provided by this crop such as increased number of barrels per square mile and ability to grow in drought conditions.
Plantation of jatropha
Jatropha plants should be planted with two meter interval spacing. About 2500 jatropha plants can be planted in an area of one hectare land. This bio fuel crop is capable of providing oil from second year onwards. Oil can be extracted from second year to 40 to 50 years. Good amount of oil can be extracted from sixth year onwards. There will be substantial level of oil extracted from this plant from second year onwards. Optimized oil output can be obtained to generate significant gains. Another highlight feature of this plant is that it is capable of absorbing large amount of carbon di oxide from atmosphere. This will refresh air in the atmosphere and earn carbon credits.
Benefits of jatropha plant
Jatropha crop has developed as a wonderful option when compared to other kinds of bio diesel crops. Previously available crops such as corn, rice were not economically viable and had their own demerits. Corn plants were capable of producing 100 barrels of oil per square mile and this was not a profitable option. Rice can produce as much as 1000 barrels of square mile but since this is a major food grain, it is not possible to use this as a bio fuel crop. Jatropha plants can produce as much as 2000 barrels of square mile and offer numerous advantages.
This plant is capable of growing in arid conditions and does not require irrigation facilities. Another important aspect of this plant is that it increases the fertility of the soil in a great manner. This provides an option of growing food grains during other half period. Thus, it will be a wonderful option to grow this plant and obtain good amount of oil.
